Symptoms of Cluster, Tension and Migraine Headaches

There are many types of headaches each with their own unique characteristics. Below are some of the most common symptoms with each type of headache. Knowing which type of headache a patient suffers from will help to improve their outcome with treatment.  In most cases, scientific specific chiropractic adjustments will be very helpful to headache sufferers.

Migraine Headaches

  • Unilateral, pulsating moderate to severe pain
  • Lasts a few hour to a few days
  • Can be preceded by an aura
  • Sufferer must avoid light
  • Neck pain
  • Nausea
  • Triggered by changes in weather, stess, physical activity, smells, alcohol, dehydration or ceratin foods
  • Typically patients have a family history of migraines

Cluster Headaches

  • Severe unilateral pain around the eye
  • Lasts from 15 minutes to 3 hours
  • More common at night
  • Tear or nasal congestion
  • When they occur they come in groups over a few days to a few months.

Tension Headaches

  • Bilateral tightening around the head
  • Mild to moderate pain
  • Can last 30 minutes to days
  • Associated with trigger points in the neck
